bernard butler – st spector’s, enfield
form tutor’s comment
bernard would do well to join in more with the other boys. he does tend to ‘keep himself to himself’, which is a concern. he needs to build on his undoubtedly confident and accomplished individual studies to gain teamworking skills with his classmates.

science
bernard has carried out some interesting investigations this term. he tested different plectrums for tensile strength and measured vibration according to the sinewave using guitar strings, which produced unexpected results.

english
bernard has worked hard this term on the set texts for this subject, which his essays demonstrate a sound understanding of. however, i feel there is room for improvement in his creative writing, such as a widening of his vocabulary, although his short story about a recovering hypochondriac, ‘i feel better’, showed dramatic depth and empathy.

music
bernard’s work this term has included the composition of an opera and a very interesting extended essay on the history of the wah-wah pedal in western musicology. next term i would be very pleased if he were to join the school orchestra.

history
bernard shows great natural ability in this subject. he has a great understanding of the topics we followed this term, war & revolution, and wrote a very interesting piece of work on napoleon.
